These are the expression sheets I made of Norbert and Molly for each scene in the film. By making these sheets I know which facial expression I have to model in plasticine clay on the PU resin jaw replacements of each puppet.

What about the title?
Possible title options for my graduation movie:
- Starter
- Appetizer
- Dinner for one
- Ober Gene
- Broccolonely
- Once
- One shot
- Sociable
- Well-suited
- Palsy-Walsy
- Likably-not
- Un-able
- Come-a-table (Come-at-able; approachable)
- Piece of cake
- Vacant
- Turning Tables (Too much Adele-ish..)
* Turn the Tables (Change of events)
"reverse one's position relative to someone else, especially by turning a position of disadvantage into one of advantage."
For now I like the last option because it relates to the sudden change of social events in the restaurant and the changing shapes of the tables.

Styleframes
I made some styleframes of the tables and chairs in the restaurant. I experimented with different tables and chairs for all the characters in the restaurant. I applied four colourscheme's and structures on the floor and wall.
In the next couple of weeks I will make more styleframes.

Character design
Animator and Illustrator Julia Jager, a friend of my who graduated as an Animator at the St. Joost Art Academy two years ago, helped me by drawing my interpretation of the visual look of the characters. I often draw characters rather flat. She has the ability to quickly sketch in a three dimensional way.
After I received the sketches from Julia I picked out the best design and coloured it in by using several colourschemes based on the colours in a mid-century, cartoon modern and jazz cafetaria style.
The design of the characters are still in progress.

Storyboard and PreViz
Image (camera and color/design)
The camera angles are simple and straight to the point. I used many wide shots to show the atmosphere of the scene and to illustrate the loneliness of Norbert. The actions are often shown in a medium shot, and the facial expressions in close-up. When one action changes into the other the shot switches to add more dynamics to the story. I will only add a camera movement if a motion control rig is available for use.
In the next better and improved storyboard I am going to make the introduction of the character more clean. Also I am going to work out the ending of the story. It has to be less obvious that Eggbert is observing Winnie's fail to make contact in the same way he did with the group of friends. The ending has got to have a twist.

Storyboard V1
Afterwards, near the end of the production, I made a Previz(ualisation) on set of my improved storyboard. By making the Previz I will have a better view of depth in my story and camerawork.
WARNING: THIS PREVIZ CONTAINS SPOLERS!

Style
The design and colors of the film will be visualised in a mid-century modern style. The popular US. architecture, interior-, product- and graphic design has Scandinavian influences and was in fact American's reflection of the German Bauhaus style between 1930 and 1970. Examples of the contemporary design of the mid-century modern style are illustrations by Kevin Dart and Peter Donnelly, and style frames from Disney Pixar's The Incredibles.

In the graduation movie Rabbit and Deer, Péter Vácz combined a three dimensional and two dimensional world by using stop motion animation. My goal is to find a way to bring these worlds together in my story just like Péter Vácz did. He used the same simple colour schemes and figures in the character design to make the perfect match between these worlds.

The other characters in the restaurant are different types of groups of people.
The newly weds; are not losing each other out of sight. Besides sharing a carafe of wine they are also sharing each other's food. They often kiss and regularly grab each other hands.
The cheerful group of friends; who are talking with each other. Real Burgundian people, who enjoy life. Every time they receive a new pot of beer from the waiter, they bring out a new toast. Occasionally they are producing a remarkable and recognisable loud volume peak.
The dull businessman; who wants to enjoy his dinner and evening on his own. He just came from his boring office job, and is therefore still hoisted in his suit. After he had eaten a bit, he continues preparing his presentation for tomorrow's client.
Molly; has the same characteristics as Norbert. She is an 28 year old and is in the prime of her life. She loves playing tennis and likes to read manuals.
